ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -- Two brothers accused in two drive-by shootings appeared in court Friday. It's been nearly month since Anderson County brothers Detravious and Maurice Mills were jailed for a three-hour crime spree. The brothers, 17 and 18, face nearly 30 charges, including multiple assault with intent to kill charges -- most stemming from a drive-by shooting.
Investigators say on the morning of Sept. 13, between 4 and 7 a.m., the brothers went on a shooting rampage.Anderson County sheriff's detective Wayne Mills said, "We recovered 38 different shell casings, most being 9 mm variety."The evidence was collected in and around the Hardee's parking lot on the 28 Bypass where a group of eight people were fired upon. Two women were wounded.Investigators say the intended target, Fred Mattison, was not harmed. A half hour later, detectives say that Mills fired shots into the home of Mattison's girlfriend on Eastwood Street.Investigators said bullets almost hit Mattison's sleeping son. About 45 minutes later on Belton and Hall streets, Mattison's mother was attacked.Detective Mills said, "There appears to be some altercation that spilled over from the earlier in the night at one of the clubs in Anderson County."Mills said Detravious and Maurice Mills, along with two other unknown men, were riding in a small gold car down the 28 Bypass."Individuals started firing from that vehicle. Several shots fired from the intersection," Detective Mills said. The gunfire continued as the car entered the parking lot and investigators say Mattison fired back."Three black males jumped out. Driver stayed in the vehicle continued to fire upon all eight subjects," Mills said. "Somewhere along the intersection of Hall and Belton streets one of the suspects is accused of beating up the mother of four siblings fired upon at Hardee's."The victim identified Maurice Mills as one of her two attackers. Both shooting victims survived, but one still has a bullet lodged in her shoulder. The judge moved the case to the grand jury for possible indictment.
